Shipping Electronics Safely
Electronics are a popular gift idea, especially for family and friends living abroad who may need a new device while studying or working in a different country. With Boundr, you can ship various consumer electronics at affordable rates, such as smartphones, Bluetooth speakers, Kindles, and more. However, it's important to understand the rules and guidelines when shipping electronics to ensure safe and successful delivery.
What Electronics Can You Ship with Boundr?
While Boundr allows you to ship many types of plug-in-powered consumer electronics, there are restrictions on devices containing lithium-ion or lithium-metal batteries. Items like laptops, smartphones, tablets, and e-readers often have these batteries. Due to international regulations and the potential safety risks during air transport, Boundr cannot ship items with these types of batteries.
However, you can still send electronics that do not contain lithium batteries or where the batteries have been removed. Here are some examples of electronic devices you can safely ship with Boundr:
- Bluetooth Speakers (without built-in batteries)
- Desktop Computers (without batteries)
- Wired Headphones and Earbuds
- Televisions and Monitors
- Home Appliances like toasters, blenders, or coffee makers
- Video Game Consoles (without batteries)
If you’re sending a device that originally came with a lithium battery, consider removing it before shipment or consulting with the manufacturer on safe shipping options. You can always contact Boundr Customer Support if you have any questions.
Packing Electronics for Safe Shipping
Packing your electronic device correctly is crucial to prevent damage during transit. Here's a guide on how to pack electronics safely:
1. Start with the Right Box
A double-wall box is ideal for shipping electronics. This type of packaging involves placing your device in a box within a box, providing an extra layer of protection. If you have the original retail box, it can serve as the inner container.
2. Secure the Inner Box
If you're using the original retail box or another sturdy box, ensure the device is snug and secure. Wrap the electronic device in bubble wrap and insert it into the box, filling any gaps with additional padding to prevent movement. Avoid packing peanuts, as they generate static electricity and may not keep the device securely in place.
3. Add the Outer Layer of Protection
Once the device is securely packed in the inner box, place this box inside a larger, double-wall box. Add additional padding around the inner box to cushion it from any impacts. Ensure the outer box is well-sealed with tape, reinforcing all seams for extra protection.
4. Special Considerations
Power Off and Remove Batteries: Before shipping, ensure the device is completely powered off and any batteries, especially lithium-ion or lithium-metal batteries, have been removed. Boundr cannot ship devices with these types of batteries present.
Original Packaging: If possible, keep the device in its original packaging. This helps maintain the item's integrity and provides an extra layer of protection.
Tape Power Buttons: Even though the battery has been removed, consider covering the power button with tape or cardboard to prevent accidental activation during transit.
Static Protection: Use a plastic bag to insulate the device from static electricity, ensuring it remains safe throughout the journey.
